Cruising to Denmark

Cruising to Denmark may be synonymous to many with the capital city of Copenhagen - Copenhagen has long been the largest turnaround port in the Baltic. The geographical location on the doorstep of the Baltic Sea, the convenience of a large international airport less than 20 minutes from the city, a large variety of quality hotels and an overall excellent level of service and reliability combine to make Copenhagen the obvious starting point for a Baltic/Scandinavian cruise. Apart from turnarounds, Copenhagen also makes an attractive port of call on any Baltic itinerary – the compact city center with its wealth of castles and museums, the tax-free shopping opportunities, the mouth-watering delights of New Nordic Food and much more combine to make Copenhagen a highly enjoyable port of call for cruise guests. But Denmark is more than just Copenhagen.

With more than 440 islands and 7000 kilometers of shoreline, Denmark is an easy destination to access and enjoy from the sea. More than a dozen different ports offer possibilities for cruise ship calls and open up gateways into nearly every corner of the kingdom. Several navigable fjords, straits and archipelagos also offer rich possibilities for scenic cruising in Danish waters.

The main cruise season runs from May until September although some ships arrive as early as April and leave as late as October. Since 2005 a steady number of ships on Christmas itineraries have also been calling in Copenhagen in December to enjoy the festively lit and decorated city, explore the Danish Christmas traditions and shop at the Christmas markets.
