Walking tour of Copenhagen back
Stretch your legs and explore Copenhagen's major attractions on foot. Your knowledgeable guide will take you past many of the city's most popular sites and help you uncover its unforgettable charm.
The tour begins with a short stop at The Little Mermaid, which has become a symbol of Denmark. Continue the walk and admire views of the Citadel fortification from the 17th century, built to protect the entrance to Copenhagen Harbour. The next point of interest is the impressive Gefion fountain located next to the English Church of St Alban. Passing the Resistance Museum you'll continue to the modern, but elegant Amalienhaven Square where the Queen's Castle is located, Amalienborg Palace. Lining the sides of Copenhagen's most beautiful square, the four Rococo palace buildings are the winter residence of Denmark's royal family. Next stop, Nyhavn, the colorful old waterfront is today home to restored 500-year-old gabled houses, cafés, bars and restaurants. Hans Christian Andersen lived at three different addresses along the Nyhavn Canal.
A well-deserved break will be made at a local restaurant. Afterwards, visit the Kings' New Square, home to the Royal Danish Theater, Magasin du Nord and the Hotel D'Angleterre. Follow Strøget, the popular pedestrian street that leads off the square. Visit Hojbro Plads where you view from the center of the square the magnificent Christianborg Castle, home of Denmark's parliament. Stop at Holmen's Church, attended by the Royal Family, and the Old Stock Exchange, which boasts a bronze roof and spire in the shape of four intertwined dragon tails. The tour may vary slightly depending on the starting and finishing points in the city.
